About
Amy Badgett Photography

Hi, I’m Amy Badgett, a film photographer based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. For over 10 years, I’ve been shooting with 35mm and medium format film — drawn to the way it captures moments that feel lived-in and honest: soft, emotional, a little imperfect, and full of life.

My love for film began with my dad’s Nikon FA, a cherished camera he bought in 1985. Long forgotten, it became my creative spark when I discovered film photography blogs in the early 2010s. After developing my first roll, I was hooked. Since then, I’ve expanded to shooting a mix of 35mm, 120mm, and Super 8mm film, in both color and black and white, depending on the story we're telling.

I work closely with artists, musicians, and small business owners on creative branding sessions that reflect their voice and vision. I also photograph families who value presence over polish — the beautiful, fleeting chaos of real life, documented with intention and care.

I photograph intimate weddings, elopements, and courthouse ceremonies with the same thoughtful approach — focusing on genuine emotion, natural light, and the quiet magic in between moments. I also offer Super 8mm wedding films and music videos for those who want their story told with movement, texture, and a sense of nostalgia.

Whether we’re creating portraits, documenting your family, capturing your love story, or making something totally experimental — my work is rooted in curiosity, emotional truth, and a sense of play. I’m here to help you see your world through film, just as it is: full of depth, joy, and texture.

FAQs

What kind of film do you shoot with?

I shoot with a mix of 35mm, medium format (120mm), and Super 8mm film, depending on the project and the feeling we’re going for. I use both color and black-and-white film stocks, including Kodak Portra, Kodak Tri-X, and others that help me tell stories with texture and tone.

Do you offer digital photography too?

My work is rooted in film — it's what inspires me and where I feel most at home creatively. That said, I may shoot a few digital frames as backup during certain projects, especially in low light or fast-paced situations. If you're looking for someone who shoots primarily digital, I may not be the right fit (and that’s okay!).

Where are you based? Do you travel?

I'm based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and I love working with people in this creative, tight-knit community. I also travel throughout the Southeast and beyond for weddings, sessions, and collaborative projects. If you're not local, don’t hesitate to reach out — I’m always open to new places and stories.

What kinds of photography sessions do you offer?

I photograph:

  • Intimate weddings, elopements, and courthouse ceremonies

  • Creative brand portraits for artists, musicians, and small businesses

  • Lifestyle family photography that’s messy, tender, and real

  • Super 8mm wedding films and music videos for nostalgic, story-driven motion work

Each session is tailored to reflect your story, space, or season of life with honesty and intention.

Why film?

Film slows me down. It asks me to look closer, to wait for the moment instead of chasing it. There’s a softness and emotional depth in film that I haven’t found anywhere else — something honest and lived-in. I love that the results aren’t perfect. They feel like memory.

Do you photograph larger weddings or events?

My heart is in smaller celebrations — elopements, courthouse weddings, backyard dinners — where the focus is on connection, not production. If you're planning a larger event but resonate with my style, I'm happy to talk through what might be possible or refer you to someone who’s a better fit.

How long have you been shooting film?

I’ve been shooting film for over 10 years, starting with my dad’s 1985 Nikon FA. After developing my first roll, I never looked back. Over the years, I’ve deepened my process, expanded to new formats, and built a practice that’s grounded in curiosity and care.

Can I book you for something experimental or collaborative?

Absolutely. I love working on creative projects — especially ones that live outside the box. Whether you're an artist looking for visual storytelling, a musician planning an album release, or someone with a weird and wonderful idea, I’m all ears.

How do I book a session with you?

Just reach out through my contact form or send me an email with what you have in mind. I’ll follow up to learn more, share availability, and talk through next steps. I usually book 1–3 months in advance, but sometimes I have last-minute openings too.
